Picking the right flooring for your kitchen remodel is very important. There are lots of materials to consider and how each one will suit your needs. Kitchen flooring tends to take a lot of abuse as it is a heavily trafficked area. Lots of cooking and family gatherings take place in this area. Below we are going to outline some of the most popular flooring choices available and the pros and cons of each one.

Stone flooring-

can create a very rustic, yet elegant look to your kitchen. It lends itself to a higher look and feel. Since the variation of color and texture is often much different from one piece to another, it offers great visuals. They are very durable and are known to stay cool even in hot temperatures. However, they are a bit more expensive than other materials. Depending on how soft and porous a stone is, it could require more maintenance as well.

Solid wood flooring-

Wood flooring is a classic choice for a kitchen. It is hard to replicate the warmth and appeal of a wood surface. If properly maintained and cared for, it will withstand even the toughest abuse. Wood is offered in a variety of sizes and colors, that makes it easy to pair with other attributes in your kitchen. It has always been in style and easily transformed when sanded down and refinished. The downside of wood flooring, is the amount of attention they require. You will want to keep a close eye on spills and clean any moisture as quick as possible. Because it is a softer surface then some, may require refinishing periodically.

Laminate flooring-

Laminate flooring, for those who don’t know, is an engineered product. It is built out of several layers which are sandwiched together. It is designed to look like wood or tile but has a higher threshold for scratches and scuffs due to a special internal layer. Makes this product great for use with kids, pets, and heavy traffic. Most of these products are easily installed and maintained. However, it does not provide as much depth and character as some products. It also must be replaced if it wears too much and starts to show its age.

Ceramic tile flooring-

Ceramic tile flooring has been a go to flooring choice for many years. Like wood flooring, it has a wide variety of options to choose from. Color, pattern, size, and shape are endless. You can incorporate tile in any type of kitchen from rustic to modern. Ceramic tile is very easy to clean and withstands wear and tear very well. It is also offers many options for those who are on a low budget. On the other hand, tile floors may crack as a floor settles. It is also a hard surface, which means dropped glassware is almost guaranteed to break. You will have to keep an eye on the grout for sealing purposes as well as cleanliness. You may want to put down rugs or cushions also because it can be hard on your feet.
